S-East govs decry pro-Biafra group’s attack on Enugu Radio

Governors of the South East states rose from their meeting in Enugu yesterday with a condemnation of last Thursday’s invasion of Enugu State Broadcasting Service, ESBS, by members of the pro-Biafra group, Biafra Zionist Federation.
The governors were reacting to the invasion of the broadcasting house by BZM in which a police sergeant and a member of the group were killed.
Leader of the group and London-trained lawyer, Benjamin Igwe Onwuka, and 12 members of the group were arrested and now in police custody.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting held at Enugu Government House, Chairman of the South East Governors Forum and Abia State Governor, Dr Theodore Orji, said the forum condemned the attempt by the Biafra Zionist, which attempted to seize Enugu State Radio, after an earlier attempt to hoist Biafran flag at Government House, Enugu.
He said the forum expressed shock and sorrow on the untimely death of the former Minister of Information, Prof. Dora Akunyili, and commiserated with her family, government and people of Anambra State over her demise.
On the death of Justuce Chukwudifu Oputa, the forum also commiserated with the family of the deceased Jurist and promised to participate in his burial ceremony.
Orji stated that the forum had resolved to further support the South East delegates to the National Conference, in view of the extension of the exercise.
Governors of Abia, Enugu and Ebonyi attended the meeting, while their Imo and Anambra States counterparts were represented by their deputies.
