The men: Ahmad Rufai Abubakar, Muhammad Sani, Adamu Yusufu, Yau Saidu and Anas Isah, were referred to in a paper handed to reporters after the parade as “suspected masterminds” of the attacks.
According to a police handout to reporters, a Boko Haram leader called Rufai Abubakar Tsiga, who is currently at large, was “a mastermind of the bombing incident.”
The police said that Tsiga was actively aided by a co-mastermind, Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, also at large, a student of Arabic Language at the International University of Africa, Sudan.
“In the night of 13th April 2014 Rufai Abubakr TSIGA and moved the explosives laden vehicle to the position from where he detonated the explosives,” the police said.
It is unclear why the police chose a public parade rather than a courtroom in which to commence prosecution of the suspects.
